Home & Family | South Dakota Congrats to the 2014 South Dakota Retired Teachers AARP Grandparent Essay contest winner, Sam Olson. The 5th grader, from Madison, South Dakota wrote the top essay among 1511 submissions across the state from more than 40 participating schools. The essays were judged by members of the South Dakota Retired Teachers Association represented by 14 units across the state. Olson received $250 and a recognition plaque for his winning essay about his grandfather, Dick Wire, also of Madison. The award
